It is with great sorrow that we have learnt that our friend and colleague Georg Witt will not be with us at the meeting. Georg Witt passed away on July 12 at the age of 84. We are missing him. Georg was the founder of the Annual European Meetings on Atmospheric Studies by Optical Methods. He has been an inspiration for so many. This year's meeting will be a great opportunity to celebrate his memory.

Meeting Idea

The 41st Annual European Meeting on Atmospheric Studies by Optical Methods (41AM) will take place near Stockholm, Sweden, on August 18-21, 2014. The meeting will be hosted by the Department of Meteorology (MISU) at Stockholm University.

The meeting will concern optical studies at all atmospheric altitudes. Possible topics include all aspects of optical science including ground-based, in-situ and space-based observations, theory, new techniques, new experiments, etc.  The meeting will bring together scientists and graduate students to exchange experience, share scientific results, and plan and coordinate ongoing and future experiments. And please note: Despite the historical term "European Meeting", the meeting is of course open to everybody world-wide.

Please check under Programme to find updated information about the meeting structure. Submitted abstracts are listed on the Abstracts page. We invite you to present and discuss optical science related to

  • troposphere and stratosphere
  • mesosphere, lower thermosphere and ionosphere
  • aerosol and clouds
  • airglow processes
  • auroral studies
  • ground-based, in-situ and space-based instruments
  • related analysis and laboratory techniques
  • new facilities

As during earlier meetings, there will be a calibration workshop. This will in particular provide an opportunity for the inter-calibration of light sources. The calibration workshop will take place after the 41AM, on August 22, at the Department of Meteorology, Stockholm University.
